Women's Voices in the Valley

Karen Devine

Evening News Anchor, KESQ

For decades at KESQ, Karen Devine has been a constant in the Coachella Valley that has changed dramatically. She has covered triumphs and tragedies involving people she knows personally and neighborhoods she has watched evolve. She told us “When you’ve been in a community this long, you’re not reporting on strangers. These are people you know.”
Devine’s approach to the anchor desk is rooted throughout research and a sense of responsibility, “people invite you into their homes every night. You don’t take that lightly.” She believes credibility is built quietly, over time, through consistency and care rather than performance. Even as television news has shifted in pace, tone, and technology, her standards have remained steady.
Journalism has also become a family legacy. Devine’s son, Zach, now works as a reporter at KCAL in Los Angeles, a point of pride that underscores how deeply news and storytelling are woven into her life.
Karen Devine’s legacy is not flash or reinvention. It’s trust earned the long way, night after night, year after year.
